Journey through each stage of the silkscreen printing process. Creating the over-painted details in the background, printing the bold text and then adding the shapes and hand-drawn lines and text to the build-up to the finished print.
We have worked with and published David Spillers work for many years and are continuing to work with His Widow Moria and their son Xavia on these posthumous editions.
‘In Love with You’ is one of a series of prints David Spiller created before his death specifically to be limited-edition prints. These prints use the same method of working we developed over the years with David.
David would choose a background image or text that he has used for one of his paintings and then use this as the base for the image. Then he would draw and paint the different elements on top of this using layers of tracing paper which then form the basis of the different silkscreen elements in print. This builds up a unique image just for the limited-edition print.
For ‘In Love with You’, there was a lot of detail and overpainting of colours in the background, so this was the starting point of the screening. Next came the bold, large text - In Love with You - before the complex process of adding in all the shapes and hand-drawn lines and text.
